Beyond the Canopy: Suriname highlights sustainable tourism and investment opportunities at WTM London debut
With 93% forest cover and a rich multicultural heritage, Suriname is putting its natural assets and economic future front and centre at World Travel Market (WTM) this year. Highlighting a range of ready-to-book travel experiences alongside new strategic investment opportunities, the delegation is demonstrating how responsible tourism is already thriving while paving the way for future nature and community-based opportunities.
Shaped by dense greenery and deep-rooted cultural traditions, Suriname presents a compelling experience for both visitors and industry partners. Travellers looking for adventure can explore vibrant community journeys with Indigenous and Maroon hosts, navigate deep-jungle rivers to forest ecolodges and wildlife reserves, and wander through the historic wooden architecture of Paramaribo's UNESCO-listed inner city. From specialised birding and wildlife photography to coastal marine turtle observation, the destination offers distinctive journeys beyond the conventional South American trail.
Delegates can connect directly with the Suriname Hospitality and Tourism Association (SHATA) and the local experts crafting these itineraries, including representatives from Travel the Guianas, Packed & Ready Travel, Pejego Tours, Impressive Suriname Travel.
Building on these established products, the delegation is laying out a blueprint for international investors, hospitality developers, and conservation finance partners. Suriname is expanding its high-value, low-impact capabilities through responsible infrastructure, community-based tourism partnerships in remote regions like the southern rivers, and product expansions such as specialised catch-and-release sport-fishing expeditions.
"We are delighted to be exhibiting at WTM for the first time, showcasing a destination that balances ready-to-book adventures with clear opportunities for responsible growth," said Preshant Awadhpersad, Acting CEO, Suriname Investment & Trade Agency (SITA). "By pairing our established community-led tourism and pristine interior experiences with strategic investment opportunities, we are working hand in hand with international partners to expand our tourism economy in a sustainable way."
Delegates, media, and prospective investors attending WTM London are invited to connect with the Suriname delegation on-site to explore ready-to-book itineraries, upcoming project portfolios, and long-term partnership opportunities. Suriname delegation spokespeople are available for interview throughout the event.
