The Diversity Route is an initiative focused on bringing visibility to the tourism products and initiatives of WTM Latin America exhibitors, with an emphasis on promoting greater diversity and inclusion.
The project features 5 categories that embrace diversity within tourism, namely: Afrotourism, 60+ Tourism, LGBTQ+ Tourism, Community-Based Tourism, and Accessible Tourism.

Who makes the Diversity Route?
The creation of such an important initiative could not be achieved without the support and perspective of professionals actively engaged in diversity. That’s why the members of our Diversity and Inclusion Committee are involved in building not only an event that addresses diversity demands but also in coordinating and defining the initiatives that will be part of the Diversity Route during WTM Latin America.

1. Afrotourism Category

Afrotourism in BH: In Belo Horizonte, there is a vibrant Afro-Brazilian cultural scene. Considering this aspect, we created online material seeking to publicize the existing tourism potential regarding the community's history, traditions, and struggles. Furthermore, we also seek to reaffirm the city's black cultural identity to make it the protagonist of diverse tourism experiences in the capital of Minas Gerais.
A Bela Oyá Pantanal: The first receptive Afrotourism agency in Mato Grosso do Sul state, operating in Corumbá, the Pantanal capital. Founded in 2020 by Thayná Cambará, the initiative was born from the desire to value and rescue the Afro-Brazilian culture present in the region. The mission is to decolonize tourism, promoting black narratives and connecting visitors to quilombola communities, Afro-Brazilian religious grounds (terreiros), cultural manifestations, and rich Pantanal biodiversity.
With immersive circuits and itineraries, we offer experiences such as:
- Corumbá Negra Circuit – Encounters with Afro-Brazilian culture through conversation circles, literature, and visits to quilombola communities.
- Corumbá by Oyá Circuit – Route focused on Afro-Brazilian religiosity in Corumbá, a city hosting over 300 terreiros.
- Drums in the Corumbá Pantanal – Experience of Afro-Pantanal musicality, faith, and gastronomy. Experience Itineraries - 3/5 days.
Afrotourism SP: The São Paulo State Secretariat of Tourism and Travel created a Working Group (GT) to develop and strengthen the Afrotourism segment in the State. Subsequently, we launched the Afrotourism SP publication containing 10 itineraries covering diverse regions, offering visitors an immersive experience in Afro-Brazilian history, culture, and traditions. After the launch, training was held for travel agents, operators, and public managers, gathering iconic professionals and references in Brazilian Afrotourism.
The second stage involves updating the 2nd edition of the Afrotourism SP Guide, four workshops in the interior and capital, plus mapping Houses, Temples, and Cultural Centers of Afro and Indigenous religions for the future Guide to Afro and Indigenous Religious Tourism.
Mata Cavalo Quilombola Community Afrotourism Route: Located in Nossa Senhora do Livramento municipality, approx. 40 km from Cuiabá, it offers immersion and experiences in quilombola culture and history, promoting integration with the Mato Grosso Pantanal (Transpantaneira). Recognized as one of the most active remnant quilombola communities in fighting for land preservation and traditions in Mato Grosso, Mata Cavalo keeps ancestral heritage alive.
The route provides a day full of unique experiences, including visits to Afro-religious celebration spaces, music and dance presentations, immersion in quilombola backyards, plus tasting traditional cuisine and contact with products and crafts.
São Luís, Brazil's Black Island: Project directed at Afrotourism promoting and strengthening Afro culture, gastronomy, memory, and identity of the Maranhão capital through tourism itineraries. Examples include the largest urban quilombo in Latin America, Afro-religious houses, and historic center routes telling the story of Africans who helped build the UNESCO-recognized historic heritage.
2. 60+ Tourism Category

Mantiqueira Mountains: With approximately 500 kilometers in length, the Mantiqueira Mountains are a mountain chain dividing Southern Minas Gerais from the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Minas Gerais stands out for hosting 60% of Mantiqueira's cities. The Minas Mantiqueira attracts tourists interested in unique experiences, connecting with the mountain climate and rurality, discovering lush landscapes of mountain chains, valleys, waterfall diversity, trails, and adventure attractions.
For 60+ tourists, this serene and calm environment is ideal for those seeking rest and contact with nature without the tumult of big cities. The region provides peace and quiet, far from agitation, allowing true disconnection and stress recovery. It enchants 60+ tourists with its wellness and relaxation activity offerings.
Senior Group Travel: Pastore Turismo is an operator specialized in group travel for seniors and a national reference in its sector. It promotes domestic air and road trips, as well as international air trips and cruises, all with pre-defined dates and destinations. In addition to group travel, it offers other events aimed at the "best age," such as shows, theaters, and dinners, always valuing client happiness and dream realization. Over 30 years of honest, reliable, and dedicated work, always seeking to satisfy the customer with the best.
Maturity Guide: The São Paulo State Secretariat of Tourism and Travel developed the Maturity Guide, cataloging 70 cities in the state suitable for receiving senior tourists. All destinations were visited and evaluated, ensuring a high-quality travel experience for the 60+ audience. Following this work, we identified the need for training; therefore, we created itinerant workshops throughout São Paulo State to train travel agents and tourism professionals wishing to understand the senior tourist profile or seek segment updates. So far, seven "Roads" have been held. Five more are forecast.
Senior Tourism in MS: Mato Grosso do Sul recognizes the relevance of the 60+ tourist, ensuring their constant presence in our advertising campaigns. We developed specific itineraries for this audience, such as "Soft Adventure" in the Bonito/Serra da Bodoquena region, providing light and safe adventure experiences, demystifying the idea that mature travelers seek only rest. In the Pantanal, we also receive a large number of tourists over 60, especially foreigners interested in Pantanal culture.
Additionally, the partnership between Fundtur, the State Subsecretariat for Elderly Policies, and the Public Security Secretariat ensures 60+ tourists feel welcomed and safe.
3. LGBTQIAPN+ Tourism Category

Orinter Pride: An initiative dedicated to promoting inclusive and memorable travel experiences for the LGBTQIA+ community. We believe travel is an opportunity to connect with different cultures, experience new perspectives, and create bonds around the world. Therefore, we work with selected partners who share our values of inclusion and diversity, ensuring everyone is welcomed, respected, and celebrated.
What we offer: LGBTQIA+ Friendly Destinations, Prides around the World, Weddings and Honeymoons, Personalized Experiences.
LGBTQIAPN+ Guide: The LGBTQIAPN+ guide was created to fill a gap that existed in the city. It is an informative and segmented material designed to serve the target audience (residents and visitors).
Inclusive Weddings and Collections: For LGBTQIAP+ Tourism, we offer weddings with same-sex ceremonies and complimentary collections at Hard Rock All Inclusive hotels, Unico 2087, and AVA Resort Cancun.
LGBT-Friendly MS Destination: Since 2020, Mato Grosso do Sul has positioned itself as an LGBT-friendly destination. The state performs groundwork, constantly training the trade to welcome LGBT tourists well and encouraging visits to local destinations. Simultaneously, the partnership between Fundtur, the State LGBT Subsecretariat, and the Public Security Secretariat offers backing so LGBT tourists feel welcomed and safe in Mato Grosso do Sul.
Furthermore, public calls for tourism events use the existence of inclusive and preventive projects for the LGBTQIA+ audience as evaluation criteria.
OUT in Colombia: A tourism agency creating authentic experiences with positive impact on Colombia's LGBTQ+ community. Operating in Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, Santa Marta, and the Coffee Region, promoting tourism as a tool for social and economic development. We create opportunities for LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs, developing unique experiences integrated into our packages.An example is our DiningOUT Experience, an immersive dinner with a gay chef from a resource-limited community. We channel tourism revenue to their community, generating employment and visibility.
Colombia LGBTQ+ Tourism Strategy: Colombia has developed an LGBTQ+ Tourism strategy since 2017, evolving to cover other segments like Afrotourism and accessible tourism. Colombia is an ideal destination for LGBTQ+ tourists because Colombians embrace and celebrate diversity. Additionally, the country remains in travelers' minds thanks to great representatives like Shakira and Karol G. Young people, especially LGBTQ+ youth, widely value tourism offerings with a community focus, sustainability, and celebration of diversity.
4. Community-Based Tourism Category

Authenticity and Tradition in Lençóis Maranhenses Sempre Atins Cavalgadas was born from the passion to explore Lençóis Maranhenses in the most authentic and ancestral way: on horseback. With years of experience in the region, we promote exclusive expeditions connecting visitors to nature and local communities. Our journeys follow ancient routes used by natives, crossing dunes, rivers, and remote villages, providing a unique immersion into the culture, history, and landscapes of this untouched paradise. Our commitment is to offer an original, sustainable, and community-based experience, valuing local knowledge and respecting the balance of this singular ecosystem.
Vai de Roteiro at Parelheiros Ecotourism Pole: An initiative by the São Paulo Municipal Tourism Secretariat promoting sustainable and experiential tourism in São Paulo's South Zone, focusing on valuing biodiversity and indigenous communities' cultural traditions.
The project aims at:
- Sustainable local development: Income generation for the local community through ecotourism.
- Cultural valuation: Integrating indigenous traditions into tourism experiences, promoting respect for cultural diversity.
- Environmental preservation: Responsible tourism activities, such as ecological trails and environmental education.
- Tourism diversification in São Paulo: Positioning Parelheiros as a differentiated and inclusive ecotourism destination.
The initiative also trains local residents as tour guides and promotes community entrepreneurship, strengthening the local economy and sense of belonging.
Vida Pantaneira Route: Culture and Tradition in the Heart of the Pantanal: Located in Poconé (MT), the Vida Pantaneira Route provides an immersion into the culture and way of life of the Pantanal people. Created to include traditional communities in tourism (previously focused only on wildlife observation), the route takes visitors to "Cantinho da Vovó Bem" (a museum in Dona Piedade's backyard), the Historic Center of Poconé, Rancho São Jorge – featuring horseback riding, "viola" music circles, and typical lunch – and the region's Ceramists, where visitors can mold clay pieces and have afternoon tea under leafy mango trees. The journey ends at Bosque dos Cumbarus, with trails and tasting of products made from Cumbaru nuts, such as brigadeiros and cookies.
This experience rescues and values the Pantanal identity, connecting visitors to the region's culture, history, and traditions.
Mennuh: Tourism Experience Menu Mennuh, Belo Horizonte's tourism experience menu, was launched in the second half of 2024 and features unique and innovative activities in gastronomy, agroecology, brewing, art, design, and much more. It is perfect for those wishing to explore and feel the best of Belo Horizonte, diversifying the tourism offer and providing more options to tourists and residents.
Mennuh was carefully crafted based on the city's main differentiators, collaboratively with entrepreneurs full of dreams and courage, and aligned with market studies and sector trends (Experiential Tourism).
Espinhaço Mountain Range: The Espinhaço Mountain Range is the only mountain range in Brazilian territory, extending about 1,000 km from southern Minas Gerais to northern Bahia. But it is not just its extent that is grand, but also its diversity! In 2025, the Espinhaço Range celebrates 20 years since its recognition by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. The region houses one of Brazil's greatest plant and animal diversities. And it is also rich in history and culture! Many cities along its path were stages for the Gold Cycle and are marked by colonial architecture.
Beyond architecture and biodiversity, the region enchants through its people, translating into unique Community-Based Tourism experiences.
Lençóis Village Visits: This is a speedboat visit departing from Barreirinhas (gateway to Lençóis Maranhenses) visiting the villages of Vassouras and Mandacaru until reaching the Bar da Hora Village. There, we meet the region's Caiçaras who work in tourism with rustic riverside restaurants; we also visit the community school financed by tourist visitation and community gardens. Part of all income goes to the Village Association for education and infrastructure improvements.
CBT in Nioaque-MS Villages: The Community-Based Tourism (CBT) Development project in Nioaque-MS Villages is an initiative aiming to strengthen the autonomy of Terena and Atikum indigenous communities through sustainable local tourism structuring and management. Specialized consultancy, in partnership with SEBRAE/MS and the Mato Grosso do Sul Tourism Foundation, is implementing a detailed visitation plan, including tourism product formatting, community training, infrastructure development, and safety/sustainability protocols. The project also foresees creating a tourism portal with an online booking system, a memory center for cultural preservation, and an image bank.
Cultural Experience at Viola de Cocho Museum: For about three years, Sebrae has supported the initiative to transform the Viola de Cocho (a typical guitar), its crafting method, and Master Alcides' legacy into an authentic tourism experience. Located in the Varginha community, Santo Antônio de Leverger, the Viola de Cocho Museum preserves not only this iconic instrument's tradition but also the history and culture of Master Alcides' family, intertwined with Pantanal music and heritage. Through tourism, this initiative adds value to artisanal work and provides visitors with the opportunity to experience this cultural richness immersively.
Encantos do Rio Paraíba: Encantos do Rio Paraíba (Charms of Paraíba River) is a Community-Based Tourism route connecting Cabedelo PB to Santa Rita PB. This route is already being commercialized by Tourism Agencies.
Amazon Cultural Immersion: In our itineraries, whether regular or private departures, we usually visit riverside and indigenous communities so clients visit not only nature but also interact with the unique culture of these populations forming the Amazonian people.
Caminho dos Guarás: A new tourism route in Maranhão state including 15 municipalities focusing on community-based tourism, experience tourism, and Afrotourism. The union of São Luís and Floresta dos Guarás tourism poles presents lesser-known destinations and places still possessing authenticity in culture, gastronomy, as well as intact beaches, islands, and mangroves. All this combined forms the Caminho dos Guarás.
5. Accessible Tourism Category

Initiative 01 - Autism Accessibility at Vila Velha State Park
At the Park, we achieved the Autism Friendly Company Seal and conducted training for attending to autistic audiences. Additionally, we have tours accessible to all audiences.
Initiative 02 - Adapted Car for Disabilities on the Curitiba-Morretes Train
We have a fully accessible train car, adapted to receive people with different types of special needs. The car also features a balcony, ensuring contact with nature, in addition to a differentiated sensory experience.
ACCESSIBLE MS TOURISM: The ACCESSIBLE MS TOURISM project aligns with the Ministry of Tourism's Accessible Tourism Program and major current legislation, aiming for inclusion and accessibility in Mato Grosso do Sul's tourism sector. The initiative seeks to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities, reduced mobility, and the elderly on the Pantanal-Bonito Route through adequate infrastructure, service qualification, and promotion of accessible itineraries.
The project has been ongoing for several years with support from FUNDTUR and public-private partnerships.
IL VIAGGIO Accesible: IL VIAGGIO Accesible is the division of IL VIAGGIO TRAVEL responsible for creating adventure experiences adapted for people with disabilities. Each experience includes everything from adapted transport and accessible rooms so people with disabilities can fully enjoy facilities, to eco-tours and extreme adventures; all adapted and led by specialists.
Blue Flag Hotel Zuana: The Blue Flag obtained by Hotel Zuana in Santa Marta, on its concessioned beach in Bello Horizonte for the sixth consecutive year, is considered an accolade, a gift, and a prize for the Santa Marta destination. Besides certification by ACODAL and the Vice-Ministry of Tourism, the prestigious hotel received special recognition for supporting and promoting environmental and sustainable management of marine-coastal tourism.
Hotel Zuana was the first beachfront hotel in Colombia and South America to receive this important eco-label. The concessioned beach stood out for meeting key aspects like water quality, safety, education, and environmental management.
Inclusive Concerts San Luis en Primavera: The inclusive concerts of the San Luis en Primavera festival, started in 2023, created conditions for people with disabilities to enjoy cultural activities. These free and accessible concerts position the festival as a national benchmark. Service protocols were implemented, along with advertising in accessible formats (LSM, audio descriptions), sensory vests, and sign language interpretation, allowing people with hearing disabilities to enjoy music for the first time.
Accessible Itatiaia National Park: The Itatiaia National Park (PNI) has been working on accessibility in its structures and exhibitions for years. In March 2025, we took another important step: the inauguration of the waterfall accessible to wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility.
Accor Hospitality and Diversity: Our work in Hospitality reflects DE&I in everything we do. We were the 1st hotel chain to adhere to the LGBTI+ Business and Rights Forum commitments in 2017. In 2023, we started pilot actions focused on Afrotourism in Salvador and representative partnerships for black people like Afropunk and Black Potencies Award.
For 2025, with our racial committee's support, we will strengthen actions and partnerships with the ambition of becoming, as in LGBTI+, a reference for the sector.
