The RuMa Hotel & Residences

Dubai, 17 April 2024

Poised to be a new urban haven within the vibrant heart of Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle, The RuMa Hotel and Residences is a luxury hotel by Urban Resort Concepts (URC). Opened on 30 November 2018, the hotel will be joining URC’s increasingly global portfolio of properties, marking the company’s first luxury development outside of China.

Adding to URC’s increasingly global portfolio of properties, The RuMa will become the only hotel in Kuala Lumpur to join The Leading Hotels of the World – a collection of more than 400 luxury hotels around the world to embody the very essence of their destination – and welcome guests to take a voyage into the culture and heritage of Malaysia, past and present.

The RuMa Means Home

Inspired by the Malay word for home, “rumah,” The RuMa embraces a new form of hospitality unlike any in the region today, where genuine and intuitive care is at the centre of every guest experience. Devoid of complicated processes, whenever a guest arrives at The RuMa they enter a world that revolves entirely around them.

With benefits that include early check in and late check out for suites, complimentary access to a fully stocked mini-bar and the chance to enjoy free breakfast at ATAS or in-room dining, The RuMa will welcome guests exactly as an accomplished host would, seamlessly caring for every need and going the distance to provide a serene refuge from the hustle and bustle of downtown life.

Rooted in a culture of “hostmanship” and drawing influence from local craftsmanship, The RuMa provides an experience both daringly authentic and uniquely Malaysian. Decorated with handcrafted artisanal furniture, each of the hotel’s luxuriously appointed guest rooms and suites overlooks Kuala Lumpur’s increasingly architectural skyline. As the city’s newest luxury benchmark, The RuMa will be where contemporary colonial charm meets the comforts of home.

A Crafted Locale

Firmly anchored in the rich and colourful heritage of Malaysia, The RuMa weaves the local with the contemporary to create a cultural revival in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. In collaboration with the Shanghai-based design firm MQ-studio, the hotel’s interiors exemplify URC’s hallmark design principles, where luxurious and understated design seamlessly integrates amidst a modern space uniquely crafted with cultural influences by local artisans.

Taking reference from the birdcages that once held canaries used to check gas leakages in mines, when guests first enter the hotel, they are greeted by a dramatic birdcage made from interlaced glazed and non-glazed terracotta that surrounds a handcrafted custom-made bronze water fountain built by craftsmen from Kuala Lumpur.

Once inside, guests will embark on a personal journey to uncover more of the city’s origins and its colonial influences. Paying tribute to the spiral staircases of old colonial houses, the lobby is dominated by a grand double staircase that appears to penetrate and ‘drill’ through the copper-tiled ceiling, further calling to mind the country’s vast mining past.

From the interior décor to the building’s architectural design, every detail tells a story; and within every room and suite, an importance is placed on reinvigorating local craft, culture and community. From the central showpiece designed by renowned local designer Bernard Chandran to the Kelarai hand-weaved walls on the sixth floor, The RuMa traces the city’s history until present-day Malaysia – simply waiting to be discovered.

A Culinary Destination

Up the grand stairwell and onto the mezzanine floor, The RuMa features a specialty restaurant ATAS, which celebrates unique local flavours in a contemporary fashion using the finest and freshest quality ingredients responsibly sourced from across the globe and local farms. ATAS is an irresistible invitation to reconnect with the richness of classic reimagined with a modern elegant twist. The restaurant features a spacious open-floor plan where guests can browse and occupy the kitchen area at breakfast, before transforming into a show kitchen for a more immersive dining experience during lunch and dinner. The hotel offers two bar destinations, SEVEN lobby bar and SANTAI pool bar and lounge, where guests can enjoy an array of delectable drinks, refreshment and light meals to indulge, converse or exchange. The LIBRARI is a sensorial space to savour afternoon tea, snacks and desserts.

A New Take on Wellness

The RuMa’s sixth floor represents an entirely new take on wellness. Immediately connected to the hotel’s gorgeous 25-meter outdoor infinity pool and sundeck, cantilevered from the building and overlooking the city’s landmarks, UR SPA offers intelligent, genderless and results-driven treatments that work around our guests’ schedules, providing anything from 30-minute express massages to whole-day rituals. Featuring five treatment rooms, a small beauty area with a reception and retail space, plus a men’s grooming area by Truefitt and Hill, UR SPA combines modern science with ancient healing. A full range of facilities is also available to guests, including a state-of-the-art fitness centre with personalised coaching and lifestyle counselling. Altogether, guests can enjoy a minimalist, tropical reprieve from the stresses of urban life.

The Host to Meetings & Events

More than a hotel, The RuMa is host to a charming local scene. With a dedicated events team on hand to assist with any event personalisation, from curated menus to specially designed spaces, The RuMa offers a variety of venues for both corporate and social gatherings, from indoor board and meeting rooms equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual technology to an outdoor terrace meeting space enveloped by the Malaysian sun.
