Growing paper

Officially founding Growing Paper in 2010, Roxanne and Nileta started creating beautiful greeting cards and gift tags by recycling post-consumer waste paper, and embedding it with seeds so that it could be planted to grow into flowers, herbs or vegetables.  Over the next couple of years, the knit Growing Paper family grew to include Franza Louw, who is in charge of administration and Christel Wessels who drive creative development. They are supported by a hardworking team of permanently employed men and women from the local community who create bespoke recycled paper products for various commercial and artistic applications. The Growing Paper range has also grown to include everything from wedding invitations to business cards, bookmarks to notebooks, corporate gifts and much more!

Head on Design

Joanna Orr, the eco-conscious designer behind Head On Design, has created her own twist on the traditional trophy heads by collaborating with other Cape Town artists, and using sustainable or recycled materials, to produce exceptionally-made decor items and gifts. Original T-Bag Designs is a socially responsible enterprise that manufactures world-class unique handmade products from recycled and repurposed used tea bags for the local and global market. Original T-Bag Designs was founded in 2009 by Jill Hayes as a community upliftment project and evolved into a fully-fledged entity employing 22 people pre-Covid. However, in Mach 2020 the enterprise closed and retrenched all 22 staff members. With the generous support of the Chamäleon Reisen group, we reopened in 2021 and we are back to producing beautiful handmade artwork and continuing our mission of creating jobs for our local communities (6 as of Jun 2022).

The Craft + Design Institute

CDI is a membership-based organisation and currently we have over 6 500 registered small businesses from all over South Africa. Membership is free and our services to SMMEs are also free to access or highly-subsidised so all can have access to the opportunities.
